Hibbs, jesus Christ is risen from the dead. Listen to this. Mark 16, verse 1, says Now, when the Sabbath was passed so we're talking about Saturday being gone. Now it's very early Sunday morning in the dark. Mary Magdalene, mary, the mother of James, and Salome brought spices that they might come and anoint him. Very early in the morning on the first day of the week they came to the tomb, but remember, there's a big stone. You know, listen, archaeologists tell us the stone that covered Joseph of Arimathea's tomb that's where Jesus's body was laid in Joseph of Arimathea's tomb that the stone that fits in the track that has been measured there in Jerusalem, is a stone that would weigh somewhere between 2,000 to 3,000 pounds. It's huge. They didn't care. What beautiful emotions, and I love the fact.
01:58
All night long, man, their little house maybe there were several homes going those women were candlelight burning, the factory, so to speak. They're working. You know, we're not supposed to be working, it's the Sabbath who cares? And they got their stuff together and they were going to go worship the Lord, even though he'd be dead. Would you be so committed to worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ, if you found out that all that he did for you, that he was dead. Listen, some people can't even come and worship God. And he's alive. They were going to worship. They never expected to see him alive. Oh, it gets better. Get up. Because of what they had experienced. This is great.
02:40
Verse 2, behold, it means open up your eyes. Big. There was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door and, just to be spunky, he sat on it. Isn't that sassy. He comes down, ground is shaking, he rolls back the stone and then sits on it. I think that's awesome. I bet he folded his hands, his arms. What an amazing sight. The Bible tells us that in verse 3, that his countenance was like lightning. And the Bible tells us that his clothing was as white as snow. And the guards these are the Roman guards. These are no wimpy guys. They shook for fear and passed out. They became like dead men. It means they fainted, and I thought about this for a moment. Everything that God is doing.
03:42
Listen, what you and I are hearing about today has been preached on all around the world today. Listen, what you and I are hearing about today has been preached on all around the world today. Listen, you guys. I don't know if you realize this or not, but right now, at this very moment, in our time zone, sunday's almost over. Do you know that Sunday in most of the world has already happened? That means all around the world, on this Sunday morning, resurrection Sunday morning, people have been worshiping Jesus by the billions all around the world. You know what that means. That means Satan had a very bad day today, and I like it. Yes, yes, yeah.
04:20
But I thought about the choreographing of all of this. Women are running angel, descending earth, shaking angels, sitting guards, passed out, one act after another, as though it were for you and I to study and experience the pages of the Bible. And you might say today well, that's about it, it's all limited to the page of the Bible. And you might say today well, that's about it, it's all limited to the page of the Bible. What you don't know, my friend, is that the words of this book gets up off the page and comes after your heart and your mind. And before we end today, the word of God is going to come up off the page and get into your heart and your mind and you're going to have to deal with it. And you can say I'm not going to let that happen. I'm going to leave right now. He'll follow you home. He's alive.
05:08
Matthew, chapter 28, verse 5 says but the angel answered and said to the women Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. I love this next verse. He is not here, for he is risen, as he said. I don't know how he said it, none of us know how he said it, but my imagination goes with that. Come. He says, see the place where the Lord lay, and there must have been a pause, but I love how he says that in verse 6., verses 7 and 8. What they had come to know?
05:50
The Bible says and go quickly. I wonder why the angel said quickly. I always wondered about that. I think there's a sense of urgency. Would you agree if we're going to kind of flirt with this a little bit and try to unpack it? Why quickly, Angel? What's the big deal? I would think the angel would say well, listen, he rose again from the dead. This is not some sort of a game here, him being resurrected from the dead. Game on this war just started for the souls of men and women and boys and girls, go quickly. There's a message to be proclaimed. Go quickly Verse 7, and go quickly and tell the disciples that he has risen from the dead.
06:44
That's the news. And indeed he is going before you into Galilee. That's 90 miles away. He's heading north. Where did you see Jesus last? Heading north? There you will see him. Behold, I have told you, says the angel.
06:59
And so, when they went out quickly from the tomb with reverential awe and great joy, they ran to bring his disciples. Word. Now notice, these are the great disciples that are hiding out. Who got to the tomb first? Guys or girls? Who were the first evangelists? Guys or girls? Girls, listen in that culture. Isn't God good? Women, you ought to. Just Maybe that's why more women go to church than men do. Have you noticed that, by the way, call a prayer meeting, more women will show up and men will say it's because we're at work. And then, when you probe, you find out that was the golf course they were at. Just kidding Guys, you know I love you.
07:44
But the women? You know? Women's testimony. In those days you had to have two women give testimony, sometimes three. Two or three women had to say the same thing about an eyewitness event to one man's testimony. If one man said, yeah, I saw the guy he had a pink shirt on running around looking crazy and he went out the window and on fire, you had to have three women say the exact same thing for them to be one witness. It's kind of insulting, don't you think, ladies? Isn't it amazing? God doesn't think that way.
08:22
I can just see I mean, I'm making this part up right now. This is not in the Bible, this next part. I can just see God say you know what I'm going to do the biggest day of all time and eternity. I'm going to let women know about it first, and then I'm going to give them the privilege and the honor and the glory to run back and tell these disciples I've been working on for three and a half years that these ladies got it in five minutes. All right, that's it. Men visiting today are saying I'm not coming back here to this place.
09:04
Well, john's gospel tells us this John, chapter 20, verse 26. And after eight days. So eight days now have gone by, john 20, verse 26,. Eight days later, eight days after Jesus has been raised from the dead, after eight days, his disciples were again inside. Did you read that? Hey, where are you guys? Have anybody seen the disciples? Where are those guys? Can't find them. They're inside. Excuse me, there's a knock at the door. Can the disciples come out and play? Nope, they're indoors and Thomas with them. Oh, that means something's coming up. Jesus came, I love this. Jesus came. That means something's coming up. Jesus came, I love this. Jesus came the door's being shut and stood in the midst and said to them peace be to you, peace to you. Isn't that awesome. He showed up without going through the door. Jesus' resurrected body was glorified. But he says Jack, I'm confused. He suddenly appears without going through the door. But you said earlier that on the resurrection morning, the women grabbed him by the feet. They were hanging on to him and they worshipped him. That's right. Well, which one is it? His glorified body is not subject to earthly physics. You could touch him and hold him and then he'd vanish, not without being a ghost. You could touch him and hold him and then, when he wanted to leave, he left. Isn't that awesome? I like that.
10:39
The Bible tells us in John's Gospel later on that the disciples are all depressed. They're up, they were amazing. They were all depressed even after his resurrection, so they went fishing. That's what it says. Peter said I've had enough, I'm going fishing. And they all said can we go with you? And they went fishing and they fished all night and caught nothing. The Bible tells us later on, the morning began to dawn and Jesus, there was a fire, there was a campfire on the shore and there was some guy all by himself cooking fish tacos. In the morning Grilled fish tacos and the voice from shore says little children, come and eat and I love Peter. Peter says it's the Lord and Peter jumps out. He takes off his, throws his clothes off. Peter dives in the water and swims to Jesus. I don't think it was because he was hungry. I think it was because it was Jesus. What a precious thing.
11:55
The Bible here tells us that Jesus suddenly appears. He's in the room and he says to Thomas Thomas, reach your finger here and look at my hands. And reach your hand here and put it in my side. Do not be unbelieving, but believe. That's a rebuke. Can you imagine God saying that to you? How many times has God said it to us? Do not be unbelieving, but believe.
12:27
See, thomas was mouthing off earlier that week. Everybody was gathering together talking about Jesus and Thomas says I'm not going to believe it. I don't believe it Unless I'm able to put my finger in the holes of his hands and thrust my hand into his side, where the hole from Friday was. I'm not going to believe it. So Jesus appears. Hey Thomas, how are you doing? Can you come over here for a second, please? Can you imagine? But isn't that what he does with us? Listen, are you a real Christian? You know exactly what I'm talking about.
13:03
I see some heads going like this oh, I know how he does that. Listen, please don't be in association with Jesus, don't be near him. Be with him. Don't know about him. Know him. And he says Thomas, my translation Thomas, hey guys, listen, this is going to be really painful for him. People will read about this for a couple thousand years. Hey Thomas, take your fingers and put them in the holes, pass them through. You see that it is me. Want to see my side? There you go. Big, gaping hole. All right, thomas, for now on, no more doubting, go.
13:56
And that moment had to be tremendously humbling. Thomas exclaims verse 28, my Lord and my God. And then Jesus says something that involves you right now, you today. And Jesus said to him verse 29, thomas, because you have seen me and you believe and you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. That's good news. He's talking about us and all those generations since. Yeah, you can clap for that. That's good news, that's beautiful news. But I love the fact these women. They went and told the disciples and the Bible tells us that the disciples didn't believe.
14:49
Remember, show and tell. Did you guys have show and tell in school? Do they still have show and tell? No, yes, sort of. You know, I don't know.
14:59
Back in the 1800s, when I was a little kid, we'd take awesome stuff to show and tell. Back in those days you'd take, like your grandpa's, 25 millimeter. No, really, it was a very odd number, I don't remember what it was a 25 or 28 millimeter gun that he had in the First World War and you'd take it to school. Can you imagine that? Hey, what are you doing? Taking this gun to school? That's awesome, crazy us. We never thought about shooting people up back in those days. This was my great-grandpa's gun during the First World War. This is a Purple Heart. All the kids, they see it and then you tell them about it and then you sit down and then somebody gets up and says this is my grandma's knitting set and she came over in the covered wagon and you know, it's just show and tell, it's part of school.
16:03
Well, these women, they showed up and they told those disciples and the Bible says that to the disciples their words seemed like idle tales. Stop telling stories, women. We've been up all night. Well, maybe that's your problem. You should get some sleep. I'm sure these guys Peter James, john, all of them they didn't believe. Now, for those of you who are skeptics, this has got to be quite disturbing to you, because if you're thinking, oh, these guys all made up this story and this whole gospel thing is a big joke, they made it up as a conspiracy Well, if it is, it's pretty wimpy on their part, the thing that they conspired to dupe everybody with. They wound up not even believing it themselves. But Peter got up. God bless Peter, that big bumbling fisherman. According to church history he was huge, big guy. I'm going, nothing's going to stop me and he's running to the tomb.
17:10
John's gospel gives you more detail about. Peter started running first, but John started running later and John passed him and got to the tomb first. John writes that about himself. I'm faster than Peter. But the cute thing is, john stopped and he looked in the tomb. Peter couldn't stop, kept running and went right in, probably took John with him in the tumble. Something clicked in Peter. Enough, I've got to go. I've got to try this out. I've got to see. If it's true, what about you today? I've got to see if this is true what you're talking about, Because, pastor, if it's true what you're talking about, it's a game changer. Oh yes, my friend, at least If what you're saying is true, then the grave's been broken Absolutely. If what you're saying is true, that Jesus is alive, that explains a lot. Yes, it does. He is alive and the tomb is empty.
18:13
And number five is verses 9 to 10 of Matthew 28. And we get up because of what we must do. And as they went to tell the disciples, behold, jesus met them. Say and rejoice. Now there's an exclamation point in your English Bible. It was their way, trying to take English, which is like black and white paint, trying to paint with black and white paint, a language that is in techn, technicolors, multiple colors beyond. He rejoiced, it's kind of. And Jesus came and he rejoiced. Hey, no, he rejoiced. You know the old English word exuberance. Jesus had exuberance. He didn't say, hey, ladies, guess what it's me. When he said rejoice, it was so obvious of what he had done and what he had achieved for us. And Jesus says in verse 10 to them do not be afraid, go tell my brethren to go to Galilee. There they will see me. And that's what you and I are to do.
19:39
Today is what befalls us to get up is the fact that God wants to use you and I to tell people You're going to go somewhere right now. I assume I don't know if you've eaten breakfast before you came or afterwards. At some point're gonna have to eat. You need to tell people today's the day, by the way, just use it as a gigantic excuse. Hey, happy resurrection day, you know, cuz people will say happy Easter, happy Ishtar. It's pagan. You know Easter. You know that we're not gonna go down that road right now, cuz it put, put a dampering on everything. But it's bad news. Ishtar, get it. Get some bunnies together and some colored eggs and go get some people and let's be like bunnies. That's what that was. No, no, happy Resurrection Day. That's what we want to tell people. Why?
