None of us have these in and of ourselves. You might be sitting here thinking I'm encouraging, I'm pretty merciful. No, you're not, listen. These are supernatural gifts. We're not talking about you being nice. These are things that are not you, not me. These are things given by God Again. That's why he gets all the glory and we get all the thrill. 00:36 - Speaker 1 You can get the outlines of this podcast by going to jackhibbs.com/podcast today. If this podcast lifts you up and encourages you to live a more fulfilled life in Christ, then make sure you leave us one of those five-star ratings. To us that's like saying amen or yes. Then that rating will encourage others to listen Now open your hearts to what God's Word has to say to you. Here is Jack Hibbs. 01:04 - Speaker 2 Number one. Keep this in mind. So the more that you use your spiritual gift, the more faithful you will become. Added If you don't know what your spiritual gift is, you're actually faithful in nothing. And remember, as believers, we're only going to be judged for one thing, and one thing only our faithfulness. Did you know that People? Do you know that, as believers, we're not going to be judged for any of our sins? When we die and see Christ, that happened at the cross, he's going to say what did you do with what opportunities I gave you to? And we want to say I did everything I possibly could to honor and glorify your name, Jesus. And we want to say I did everything I possibly could to honor and glorify your name, Jesus. You got to be faithful, but you can't be faithful to that which you do not know what you're calling is as a believer. Second thing is others will be serviced by you also and their lives will confirm your gifting. Did you know that Other people, in other words, other people, will become dependent upon your Christianity? You need to ask yourself right now does anyone in this church or whatever church you attend, does anyone need me and my Christianity? These are hard questions, but I'm telling you these are necessary and I want you to hear them here first if you've never heard them before. Number three those of the church will verbally confirm your gifting and calling People will say you know what? What you said really ministered to me or what you did really ministered to me? Don't answer out loud, but can you say that others have been blessed by your life as you have done what you have done, because it was God doing it through you? These are questions that must be asked. So are you ready? 03:00 The list of gifts given in the Bible are not all found in one spot. There are those in Romans, chapter 12, obviously, 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. There are two gifts found in 1 Peter, chapter 4, verse 11. That said, these words I'm reading from you from Thayer's Lexicon, a great, great founding father of America and amazing theologian, by the way, thayer anybody who's ever been to West Point, there's Thayer's Hall and there's a great statue of the theologian Thayer. This is the same guy. 03:42 So the first gift now, as we list these things, you need to ask yourself, as a believer, Lord, is this one for me? Is this for me? If it is, show me. I want to know the gift of prophecy. It means speaking forth a discourse emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God, whether by reproving and admonishing the wicked, or comforting the afflicted, or revealing things hidden, especially by foretelling future events. To prophesize, to declare the divine will of God, the Bible. To interpret the purposes of God, the Bible. To interpret the purposes of God, the Bible, or to make known in any way the truth of God that is designated to influence or designed to influence people. The Bible Prophecy it doesn't mean you're telling the future. It means that you're putting forth the word of God. But the Bible is futuristic. Can people say amen to that? All right, ask yourself, Lord, is that me? 04:47 Number two, serving, also referring to as ministering, this gift involves providing service of any kind to the church. Thank God, this church is abounding with people who are serving. It is the broad application of practical help to those in need. Serving is a translation of the Greek word deaconion, from which we get the English deacon. Next, teaching this gift involves the analysis and proclamation of the word of God, the Bible, explaining the meaning, context and application to the hearer's life. The Bible teacher is one who has a unique ability to clearly instruct and to communicate knowledge, specifically the doctrines of the faith, encouraging. Do you have this gift, also called exhortation? This gift is evident in those who consistently call upon others to heed and follow God's truth. They are exhorters, God's truth, the Bible, which may involve correction or building others up by strengthening weak faith or comforting in trials. 05:59 Next, giving Gifted givers are those who joyfully share what they have been given. If you're grumpy about giving, God says don't give it. Given by God and others, whether it is financial, material giving of personal time and attention, the giver is concerned for the needs of others and seeks opportunities to share goods, money and time with them as needs arise. Again, this church is filled with people who have that Leadership. The gifted leader is one who rules, presides over or has the management of other people in the church. The word literally means guide and carries with it the idea of one who steers a ship, one with the gift of leadership, rules with wisdom and grace and exhibits the fruit of the spirit in life. As they lead by observe I love this by observable example. Do you know what observable example means? They lead without a word. Well, you had to leave the. You had to read the life of George Washington. You know he hardly ever talked, but he was able to lead by. What he did is amazing. 07:09 Next, mercy Closely linked with the gift of encouragement. The gift of mercy is obvious in those who are compassionate towards others who are in distress. Pause, right there. These are, by the way, not human attributes. None of us have these in and of ourselves. You might be sitting here thinking I'm encouraging, I'm pretty merciful. No, you're not. Listen, these are supernatural gifts. We're not talking about you being nice. These are things that are not you, not me. These are things given by God. Again, that's why he gets all the glory and we get all the thrill. In fact, you might be here today saying oh, that mercy is not mine. Don't say that You're the prime candidate, because when it starts to happen, you'll go wow, where did I get this mercy from? I'm not a merciful person. You'll get all the wow and God gets all the glory. Okay, where was I? Distress, showing sympathy and sensitivity, coupled with the desire and the resources to lessen their suffering in a kind and cheerful manner. Wow, isn't that beautiful To extend mercy where you have the power to do something about it, even if it's a hug, you know, even if it's a prayer. 08:32 Words of wisdom the fact that this gift is described as the word of wisdom indicates that it is one of the speaking gifts, verbal gifts this gift describes someone who can understand and speak forth biblical truth in such a way as to skillfully apply it to any of life's situations, with discernment, wow. Next, this is another speaking gift that involves understanding truth, with an insight that only comes by revelation from God. Those with the gift of knowledge understand the deep things of God and the mysteries of his word, and yet can convey them simply Faith. This is not saving faith. We all have faith in this room. This is a special grace of faith, a special gift of faith. All believers possess faith in some measure, because it is one of the gifts of the Spirit bestowed on all who come to Christ in faith. Spiritual gift of faith the spiritual gift of faith is exhibited by one with a strong and unshakable confidence, proportion of faith in God, his word, his promises and the power of prayer to effect miracles. Unusual faith the book of Acts calls it. Next, healings there's various forms of healings in the Bible the divine gift to pray, to act to alleviate the pain and suffering of another, to pray and prayer of faith and total reliance upon God to do his will according to the scriptures. 10:05 Miraculous powers, also known as the working of miracles, involving supernatural acts that could only be attributed to the power of God, so seen most often in the realm of unreached peoples through missionary activity. You might be saying I don't see any of these things happening. Listen, honestly, you may not see many of these things happening, or especially the miraculous stuff happening. It does happen, but the reason why you don't see as much as you would hope to see, would want to see, is because you live here. Let's get in an airplane and then we'll fly to Africa or South America and we'll go into the Amazon and let's just go for it. Watch what happens Unreached people, the Holy Spirit shows up, performs miracles, and then they say who are you people? 11:02 What God is this you serve? Well, thank you for asking. His name is Jesus Christ. That's who he is, and this is nothing compared to what he'll do to your soul when he saves you from all your sins. What sin? This is what sin is, and you tell them. And then they'll say to you I want to believe. Listen, don't ever follow miracles, you'll get messed up and you'll be deceived. Miracles follow those who believe, and if you want to see miracles, then sign up for some missionary group if that's what God is calling you to do, but don't do it if he's not my goodness. 11:46 Next, discerning of spirits. We need this in the American church like never before. The unique ability to determine, call out the true message of God from that of the deceiver, satan, whose methods include purveying deceptive and erroneous doctrine. This gift of discerning of spirits is given to the church to protect it from satanic infiltrators. The person who has the discernment of spirits can often detect demonic activity before it manifests itself. This is very. I need all of you to pay attention to this, because so many people have been messed up by this stuff. People have gone to churches you might be here today that you've been told by that ministry if you don't speak in tongues, you're not saved. That's from hell. That doctrine is from the pit of hell. 12:34 The Bible says not everyone speaks in tongues. Did you know that? It's a gift given to some? I believe in all of the gifts of the spirit because the Bible says they are, and I don't care who you are If you tell me. Well, these four are no longer in operation. You're making it up. That's what your denomination teaches. Show me a verse that says they ended. Many of these I've never seen in my life, but they're in the Bible. Look, I haven't seen heaven yet, but it's in the Bible and I can taste it. 13:14 Tongues Invol involving the divine ability to speak in languages previously unknown to the speaker. This gift authenticates the message of the gospel and those who preached it as coming from God. Read Acts, chapter 2 and 3. The phrase diversity of tongues Old King James Version or different kinds of tongues old King James version or different kinds of tongues effectively eliminates the idea listen carefully and don't freak until you hear this effectively eliminates the idea of a personal prayer language as being a spiritual gift, but rather a tool of prayer for all. Not to be confused with the gift of tongues. Why? Because the gift of tongues is for some. Don't ever listen. Don't ever confuse in 1 Corinthians, chapters 12 and 14, don't ever confuse praying in an unknown tongue by yourself alone, in prayer. That's not a gift. It's not listed as a gift that's available to every believer. Right, you want to pray? You want to pray when things seem impossible and your mind is blocked. That's when you pray like that. It's not a gift, it's an opportunity, it's a tool provided by God. 14:30 We're talking here about the gift of tongues. What is that? Look at Acts, chapter 2 and 3. These were Galileans. The Holy Spirit came upon them and they began to speak with languages of people that were all in the area. They were Galileans. You know what that means. It says they were Galileans and people said what in the world is happening? 14:48 I'm from Cappadocia. How is it that I understand Cappadocian coming from those Galileans? In other words, how can these country bumpkins, who don't even know where they're at, speak not only my language in a foreign country, but the perfect dialect? I didn't know this, but I was told that there are people outside of America who can tell if you're from Northern California or Southern California. Did you know that we speak? We don't even speak English in America. We speak American. There's a big difference. You want to speak English? Go to England and listen to people speak. That's English. We've messed it all up. We speak American, like yo. That's American. That's not English. These people from foreign countries. 15:41 In the book of Acts, they heard people speaking. For example, the Arabs who were present heard them speaking in their own language and they're saying what is happening here? And then the answer was given this is the Holy Spirit speaking through these people to tell you about the great works of God. They were known earthly languages that the speakers had never studied and couldn't have known the dialect. It's miraculous. You say, well, I haven't seen that happen. Get out of your lazy boy, get out there, go to Bolivia or someplace Amazing. Next, we have to hurry. We're so, we're fine, we're all just fine. 16:33 The interpretation of tongues is simply this A person with the gift of interpreting tongues could understand what a tongues speaker was saying, even though he did not know the language that was being spoken. In other words, you didn't study French, but somebody spoke in French in a gathering of people. Everybody was English and nobody spoke French, but there were two Frenchmen in the audience. Someone speaks, the Frenchman understand it, and someone in the setting understood what was being said to authenticate what was being spoken. What was being said to authenticate what was being spoken. The tongues interpreter would then communicate the message of the tongue speakers to everyone else so all could understand. 17:09 Next, helps this church is full of helps. Those with the gift of helps are those who can aid or render assistance to others in the church with compassion and grace. This has a broad range of possibilities for application. Most importantly, this is the unique ability to identify those who are struggling with doubt, fears and other spiritual battles, to move forward to those or toward those in spiritual need with a kind word and understanding and compassionate demeanor, and to speak scriptural truth that is both convicting and loving. They respond in the moment of need. You need to ask God that list what pertains to you. 17:57 - Speaker 1 This Jack Hibbs podcast, as well as all the broadcast outreach opportunities, are listener supported.
