A False Gospel

When the Bible says all things are to be done decently and in order? And what about the verbiage? Catch the fire of the spirit. Listen, the fire of the spirit came down on the day of Pentecost, that stuff didn't happen. What in the world's going on here? Is this the gospel? Is this a false gospel? And when she said, May this sweep across Canada.

1:25 I don't know if Canada needs that. I don't know if anybody needs that. Because friends, the fact of the matter is this. Nothing that I saw in that capture is biblical. In fact, you can argue the opposite. what is being said means nothing unless you have a dictionary because it's not biblical words that are being taken from Scripture, but man-made. And then the fact that people were jerking and shaking out of control when the Scripture speaks to us, that Jesus himself conducted himself in order, that the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit are done decently and in order. Yeah, you know what?

2:06 I'm not buying it. And it's certainly not the first time I've seen such things over my 50 years as being a Christian. So listen, why don't we, in light of what we just saw, why don't we analyze this according to Scripture? And so I've gotten some things written out here for us to consider. Number one, how do you find or discover or discern a false minister? a false religious leader. Well, one thing is that they'll twist or add to God's word. So I want you to apply this to what you just saw a moment ago, and God forbid, but what you might be hearing in the church that you're attending. False teachers distort scripture to fit their own ideas, and Now, this is very cleverly done, by the way, with smooth and deceptive words, Paul the apostle warns us.

2:56 But listen to Peter's warning, 2 Peter 3, verse 16. As also in all the epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction as they do also the rest of the scriptures. Bending the Bible is a sign, and we'll define it more, of a false teacher. Galatians chapter 1, verses 8 and 9. By the way, before I read this, apply this to Mormonism. Apply Galatians 1, 8, and 9 to Islam, or cults that claim such revelations.

3:39 Here it comes. But even if we or an angel from heaven... preach any other gospel or another gospel to you, then what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you, then what you have received, let him be accursed. A false gospel. Number one false gospel that you see in the world today is, Sad to say, most untaught Christians think they're hearing the gospel like this. You want to hear a false gospel? Here it comes. This is a false gospel. Believe on Jesus Christ and you'll be saved.

4:21 That's false. Just trust in Jesus. That's false. You know, put your faith in God with all of your heart. False. Do you know what the gospel is? The gospel is the first thing Jesus said. The disciples, the apostles, the first word of the gospel. Do you know it? Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved. There is no gospel message without the call to repentance from sin. Pure repentance. unadulterated gospel.

5:01 If you don't hear that, you're not hearing the gospel, no matter how many goosebumps it gives you. 2 Timothy 4, verses 3 and 4. People will accumulate teachers, excuse me, who will tell them what they want to hear rather than sound doctrine. Right? Go to a church that makes you laugh, makes you feel good, that it's always some very, very inspirational message. There's never a rebuke. There's never exhortation. There's never instruction. There's never a correction. There's never these things that make up the full counsel of God.

5:44 And so you always want to ask yourself this question. Does the teacher or the pastor or the evangelist or whatever they call themselves, do they explain clearly from the Bible what the Bible says? Or do they tell you what the Bible says? And do they make stuff up about what the Bible says? That's really important. Number two. They preach a different gospel. Again, we reference that in Galatians 1, verses 8 and 9. The central issue of the gospel is itself... the centrality of Jesus Christ, and that is the finished work of Jesus Christ with a different gospel, it will be softened or replaced with some human works, merit, good deeds, some form of effort manifested in things like morality or prosperity, self-help, self-improvement, self-aggrandizement, self-awareness, Some form of mystical experience makes up another gospel.

6:53 It would be the Oprah Winfrey gospel. Jesus, Mohammed, Joseph Smith, Moses, Confucius, Buddha, everybody. Because that's real love, you know. That's real true love. And so just be good. Follow your heart and the golden rule and you'll get to heaven. I have no doubt in my mind that that is a satanic gospel. 2 Corinthians 11, verses 3 and 4. But I fear lest somehow, as the spirit deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

7:38 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we've not preached... Or if you receive a different spirit, which we have not received, or a different gospel, which we have not accepted, you may well put up with it. Wow, that's Paul the Apostle warning about a false Jesus, a false gospel, and a false spirit to watch out for. And he said that 2,000 The preaching of a different gospel is, is salvation presented as faith alone in Christ Jesus, all based upon his merit? Or is it something else that you add to what Jesus did?

Most often, not always, not always on camera, but many times you will pick it up on camera.

9:10 But most certainly in their private dealings, in their private world, or their private life, which will always somehow go out publicly. And so Jesus said to examine the fruit. It is judgment, by the way. It's judgment, judging, discerning. It's not condemning, but judging. We are all to judge one another's fruit, and we are to judge ourselves. And so to examine their fruit... no one's going to be perfect. We understand that. No one was perfect. But is there a pattern consistency of their life to love and to follow God? Matthew 7, beginning at verse 15, Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

9:56 You will know them by their fruits. That's judging. We're supposed to do that. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? The answer is no. Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them. 1 Timothy 3, verses 1 through 7. And that is the qualifications for a pastor. You're going to want to read that. at length. But here's a question for us.

10:36 Does their lifestyle match the holiness that they preach on, that they preach about? That's right. We are to preach holiness, which is the nature of Christ. The Bible tells us that without holiness, no one's going to see God. What does that mean, holiness? Does that mean we all wear black and we all, you know, live like Amish? Not at all. Holiness is to live after the pattern of Jesus. Yes, we'll fail at that many times in the course of a day. Most often by nobody noticing because most of it's by thought. But, But we are living a life that is now dedicated to God, and people notice the difference.

11:16 The cool thing is, we notice the difference too. We know that Jesus is at work within us. Number four, false prophets, false teachers, they'll always charge money for themselves. Now, there may be events where a Christian will charge money. It doesn't make them a false teacher. I just went to a Christian concert. And I think if I'm not dumb, but I figured it out, that's this guy's job. He's a Christian music performer. He's not a false prophet. He's not a false Christian. But the label that he is under contract with, they had to rent that venue, which was a couple hundred thousand dollars for that night.

12:00 They charged tickets. That doesn't make the Christian performer, the singer, a false Christian singer. But if a pastor or an evangelist rolls into town, I'm a big, sorry, you're going to hate me for this. If I'm going to go do a gospel presentation in Omaha, Nebraska, and I'm inviting people to come, and I'm charging them to come, I'm violating God. the scriptures quickly, easily, because Paul the Apostle said that he didn't charge when he preached the gospel, nor should we.

12:43 But, Pastor, what about the offering? You know, we held an event here in Southern California called Just Church, and we didn't ask for money, and we didn't sell tickets. The whole reason for the event was to tell people in the church, in the church, to go back to a Bible teaching church. That's why it's called Just Church. That was the right way to do it. Follow the money, follow the girls, follow the glory. Billy Graham's famous three G's. Watch out for the glory, watch out for the gain, and watch out for the girls.

13:25 So watch this. False teachers will often minister for personal gain and use Christ ministry for personal benefit. 2 Peter 2, verse 1 to 3. But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. Verse 2. By covetousness, they will exploit you with deceptive words.

14:06 For a long time now, their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. Notice they deceive you with smooth words. Butter, buttered words. oily words, slick words, meaning, I just love to listen to that person talk. Oh, they're so cute. They're so funny. They're so this. They're so that. I know they might seem, I don't know about that, but they're just great. That's called a personality cult. And the Bible talks about that too, by the way, in 1 Corinthians chapters 3 and 4. 1 Timothy chapter 6, verse 3 through 10, you can read it at length, but regarding those who...

14:51 those who imagine godliness being a way for financial gain. Wow. Have you ever heard those demonized people say, hey, I'm a servant of Jesus. I'm worthy of double honor. That's why I have two Rolls Royces. Oh, I've served the Lord faithfully, and that's why I've got, you know, a Gulfstream $80 million jet, because I'm a servant of God. Those are absolutely demonized people who know not Christ. And you know who I'm talking about. Actually, maybe you don't.

15:31 There's a whole lot of them. Here's a good question under this category about money, power, and glory. Is the ministry centered around and on Christ or on building the leaders' wealth, fame, and their influence? Is it all about them? Is it all about their influence? Or is it about bringing people to Christ, bringing souls to Christ, preaching the gospel, advancing the kingdom, and listen, helping, assisting those that are in need, those that are hurting, and advancing righteousness, getting involved in cultural issues for the glory of God, teaching the church how to be disciples and disciple makers?

16:14 Or is it all about give to this program because we need another jet so we can cover the world? Oh, brother. Or we've got to wear our Armani suit because all God's anointed prophets wear Armani suits. Man, there's a day coming for these people, and it's going to be awesome. They reject, sorry, number five, they reject biblical truth when it's unpopular. This is a whopper. Faithful pastors and ministers of the gospel will preach the whole counsel of God when it feels good or not. That's part of being ready in season and out of season.

16:55 Regarding difficult subjects, they have to address them. In fact, they know that they cannot avoid them. Repentance, judgment, holiness, heaven, hell, and the issues of the day where the flock lives. What about, listen, repentance? Oh, here you go. What about pastors who never equip their people on how to use their righteous influence in the world that they live in, the flock lives in, for what is good? Translation, does a pastor instruct his flock on how to vote righteously in the upcoming vote?

17:37 I hope so, because if a pastor doesn't do that, He's failing to prepare his people to live out a practical, sanctified Christian life. He is placating and or adding to their biblical ignorance. It's a dangerous thing. Acts 20, verse 27. Paul declared the whole counsel of God and warned about wolves entering the church. 2 Timothy 4, verses 1 through 5, there Paul preached the word and said to do it in season and out of season. Jude 1, verses 3 and 4. Jude said, contend earnestly for the faith because false teachers have secretly slipped in among us.

18:21 Here's a good question for all of us. Does this pastor avoid difficult truths and issues of the day to keep people coming back to church and or to keep them comfortable? Wow. Oh my gosh. I know pastors who. And lucky for them, I'm not going to mention their names. Who have told me? Hey, I really appreciate what you say, Jack. Straight up, straight out. Man, I could never do that at our church because I'd lose a lot of people. And if that happens, the board will fire me. Wow.

19:02 You know what that's called? It's called a hireling. A hireling is that you are paid to say what they want you to say instead of doing what God tells you to do. Saying what God tells you to say. And so listen, a biblical test for every Bible teacher. Rather than judging by personality, style, popularity. Hey, look, I'm talking to you right now on social media. If I start to smooth things out to make it easier for you and to make me look good, I should, listen, I should have enough integrity to pull myself from social media.

19:44 Watch out for these guys who use personality, style, popularity, certain kinds of scriptures to draw believers or disciples to themselves, not to Christ. Acts 17, 11, test everything you hear against the word of God. 1 John 4, 1, test every spirit because, listen, not every spirit is from God because many false prophets have gone out into the world without, Can't be more clear than that. 1 Thessalonians 5, verse 21 is another practice of ours, is that you and I need to test everything and hold fast to that which is good.

20:24 So here's a helpful summary, everybody. True teachers will submit to Scripture. False teachers will reshape Scripture or say, I know you won't see this in the Bible, but God just showed this to me. False teacher. True teachers will exalt the Lord Jesus Christ. False teachers will ultimately exalt themselves rather than Jesus. True teachers produce spiritual maturity. That's evident. I love that. A true Bible teacher, the fruit of their ministry... is that they will produce disciples who are following Jesus, and the fruit cannot be denied.

21:10 Ask yourself, what kind of ministries have come out of the ministry that you're involved in? Have they planted churches? Is the ministry expanding? Are more people coming to Christ? Is the gospel going out to the ends of the earth? Are they exalting Jesus? False teachers will produce confusion, division, dependence on the false teacher and that ministry of theirs rather than Jesus. They will often claim to be a representative of Jesus Christ, which is why you need to submit to them.

21:52 False leader, false teacher, false prophet. So friends, these are very critical, serious things. And you and I are living in the age right now where it's prevalent. Don't think it's less now than it was 2,000 years ago when these things were written. It's more now. So I'm going to leave you with this picture. Could you imagine? So could you imagine? I'm trying to frame it right now. So... You and I live in a technological age where, I don't know about you, but I don't carry cash. If somebody robbed me, they would be really disappointed.

22:32 Give me all your money. I'd have to say, dude, I don't carry cash. I just don't carry cash. I barely know stores that even take cash anymore. My point is this. Everything that we do in this day and age is predominantly numerical or by scanning things. Or by swiping. I don't mean swiping like this. I'm taking it. I mean swipe your card. Tapping, I guess it's called. What if all of a sudden there was a edict that went out all around the world in the next few hours and because of some great global freak out computer glitch, You got to do away with all of your currency and your cards and your numbers because they're not going to work right now.

23:19 So you got to sign up and get this number. And then you can go pay your bills and eat your food. You would say, I'm not going to do it. What happens if you're really hungry? I'm still not going to do it. Okay, good, good. What if your baby is crying and your baby's hungry? Now you're being tempted. What if you're, listen, flip that around this way. What if there's a guy that comes to town and he's at the local park or the amphitheater or the convention center?

24:02 Or he's at the beach with a bullhorn. And he's preaching and you think, The guy's charismatic, there's no doubt about it, but what's he saying? What is he saying? You know what? 90% of this sounds right on. There's just that one weird thing that he said that, something like, God sent me here today and told me to say these things to you. Well, okay, as long as they're biblical. But then there's that 10% that he says, and in a moment, I want you to bring to me all those that you know that are sick.

24:55 And I'm going to heal them. Okay, well, first of all, I believe in biblical healing. But I also know that it's up to God to heal. God doesn't always heal for his reasons. He's made that clear in the Bible. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. That guy just said he's going to heal everybody. That's interesting because Paul the Apostle, one of his assistants in the ministry, he had to leave them. I think it was in Miletus or Troas, Miletus possibly, because the guy was sick and, And Paul had to leave him as they continued on their ministry. Why didn't Paul heal the guy?

25:35 Do you think Paul prayed for him? Of course Paul must have prayed for him. But the guy didn't get healed. But this guy said, in 10 minutes, I'm going to heal. You said, come, I'm going to heal. All of you. What if your child has cancer? Your three-year-old baby's got cancer. The guy's preaching a little off. Something's warning you. But you're curious, so you're standing in line, and the guy says something like, God has sent me here today. I'm as Jesus standing before you. What? That's too close.

26:19 That's uncomfortable. That's uncomfortable. I am God's special anointed one here today for you. Okay, now you're pushing it because those terms mean Messiah, the anointed one, God's anointed one. You might not pick up on that if you don't know, but you think, well, you know, yeah, yeah, okay. He's God's anointed one. Watch out, words matter. And then he says something like this. I am God's special anointed one. have been called to bring the kingdom to you. I am bringing the kingdom of God to you.

27:01 If you are here with me now, experience the kingdom that I bring to you. Step forward. Now your alarms are going off, but guess what happens? You see some person five feet in front of you, and they're healed of their blindness. And the man says, what's your problem? I'm blind. I declare to you today your sight. And they can see. What would you do? As you cradle in your arms your cancer-riddled child, are you tempted to take your child to that false prophet?

27:49 Jesus said those days are going to come. And if it were possible, even my very elect would be deceived. Thank God he said, if. If you know anything about logic, Jesus said, false prophets are going to come and deceive many people. Even if it were possible, my very elect, which means, thank God, if you are not his elect, if you are not his child, you will be deceived. but the elect will not be deceived. Friend, wow, we're living in deceptive age that's going to get a lot more deceptive.
